Professor K. MURUGAN, M.Sc., M.Phil., Dip. Ent., Ph.D., D.Sc., has done cutting-edge research on the synergy among plant-borne compounds with microbial insecticides and arthropod predators for the successful control of insect pests of medical and agricultural importance. Bio-formulations have developed by him have already been used by Defence Personnel at North Eastern India and Tsunami affected people of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, India during 2004-2005. His current research on stem biology with stem cell-based therapy holds an extraordinary prospective in improving the lives of people who suffer from visual, cardiac and orthodontic disorders and it carries a promising future in producing new biological elements for medical treatment. He has published 380 research papers and produced Ph.D.-42+8 ongoing, M.Phil.65, M.Sc.-90, and Post-Doc.-15. He has author of 2 books. He is the reviewer of many international journals.
He has 30 years of research and teaching experience: Earlier, he occupied several important positions such as Additional Director, DRDO-BU-CLS (Ministry of Defence, Govt. Of India), Director i/c, Research and Development Centre, Bharathiar University, Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, and Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, Bharathiar University, Scientist/Station Director, Indian Cardamom Research Instt. (Min. of Commerce), Govt. of India.
He has won many awards for his scientific achievements: (a) STA fellowship,1995 (Science and Technology Agency, Japan ), FAO-Forest Award, Italy,1997 (b) Commonwealth Fellowship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities- UK 2000 (c) CAS-TWAS fellowship 2006, Italy (d) DST, Crest Award – 2011, (e) One Time Grant Award, University Grants Commission, India (f) GreenHouse2011 Award, CSIRO, Australia, Water Award, Wuhan University (g) Chris Lomer Award for Insect Pathology 2012, USA and 100 Talent Award, Shanxi University, China, 2016.
